Bill Gates blows away other techies with his ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates takes the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in grand style

If you have to watch just one more ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, make it this one from Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. He geeks out as only Bill Gates can do by drawing up and demonstrating quite the contraption.

Gates was challenged this week by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to douse himself in ice water as thousands of others have done in recent weeks to raise awareness of ALS. Techies, including Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, have really risen to the challenge this week, adding their videos to the many others flooding social networks.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord, according to the ALS Association. The outfit has received some $4 million in donations over the past couple of weeks, about 4 times as much as usual, as a result of giving inspired by people recording themselves dumping ice water on their heads and challenging others to do the same. (ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.)

Gates has challenged Elon Musk, Ryan Seacrest and Chris Anderson from TED to dump ice water on their heads now.
