The ACT government is seeking expressions of interest from developers keen to integrate real-time bus location data into applications.
The ACT's minister for territory and municipal services, Shane Rattenbury, yesterday launched NXTBUS: An online service that provides real-time GPS information about the territory's ACTION public transport system.
"ACTION customers can access NXTBUS from the ACTION website or via its direct URL," Rattenbury said in a statement.
"This real-time passenger information can now be accessed from mobiles phones, laptops, tablets or computers.
"While ACTION has conducted extensive testing prior to the live launch, they are encouraging passengers to provide feedback as to how the system is working in order to make any improvements in the initial weeks."
ACTION is now allowing developers to register their interest in using the NXTBUS SIRI API for their applications. API access is not yet available.
The data will be available under a Creative Commons Attribution licence. SIRI is an XML-based standard for exchanging real-time information about public transport.
The public transport agency also provides a GTFS feed with bus service and bus stop data.
