The Treasury Corporation of Victoria (TCV), which manages the state's funding requirements and provides financial services and advice to government agencies, is planning to overhaul its storage area network, issuing a request for tender over the weekend.
The TCV is seeking new VMware ESX host servers and a replacement for its existing HP P4000 SAN, according to the tender document.
The agency is also seeking support and training services.
The TCV said it wants to increase the physical speed of the storage network from 1Gbps to 10Gbps or faster and have replication of data between the primary production and disaster recovery sites for “near instantaneous failover of users and systems in the event of a disaster.”
The agency said the new storage system solution should allow for tired use of solid state, fast and slow disk to improve performance.
While the TCV has already virtualized 85 per cent of its server fleet, the agency said the solution should enable it to cut operating costs further by virtualizing more physical servers.
“This will save on new server purchases, physical maintenance issues across multiple servers as well as save costs for power and cooling,” tender documents state.
Tender submissions are due by 26 September. The TCV has scheduled a tender briefing for 12 September.
