Vodafone includes international roaming in $100 Red plans

Includes consumer and business plans

Vodafone has sweetened its international roaming offer days after Telstra simplified its roaming rates.

Last year, Vodafone introduced a $5 a day plan that lets customers keep their regular voice, SMS and data limits in 47 countries.

Today, the number-three Australian telco announced that businesses and consumers who buy some of the telco’s higher-priced, 24-month contract plans can get the same roaming deal without paying $5 per day.

Complimentary roaming will be included on the following Vodafone plans:

  • $100 Red
  • $100 Red Business
  • $130 Red Business
  • $130 Red Business Grow

Vodafone has an advantage over competitors on roaming because its parent the Vodafone Group has divisions in many countries around the word.

The announcement closely follows Telstra’s announcement of multi-day travel passes that provide unlimited calls and SMS to and from standard numbers, plus what is effectively 50MB data per day, while the customer is abroad in one of 40 popular holiday destinations.

Telstra charges effectively $5 a day in New Zealand, Thailand and Indonesia, but $10 a day in most other countries including the US and Europe.

Optus also has a daily roaming plan. The telco has divided 182 covered countries into zones and provides unlimited calling and SMS, but it only includes 30MB of data per day. Optus charges $10 a day for Zone 1 areas including New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, Europe, UK, US, Canada and Asia.
