St George releases business banking app

Part of 'mobile-first' strategy to increase ease of use for customers

St George Bank has released a dedicated business banking mobile app for Android and Apple smartphones.

The app allows customers to make transfers, authorise payments, open accounts and receive live chat customer support, St George said.

St George CIO Dhiren Kulkarni said the bank focussed on making banking services convenient and easy to use for small business customers. Kulkarni described the bank’s “mobile-first” strategy in a recent interview with CIO Australia.

“St George was always rich in terms of functionality” on mobile, the CIO said last month.

“There isn’t much newer [functionality] to add. What we’ve [done] is make it easier, simpler and faster to get there.”

A recent survey mobile banking by St George Bank found that 75 per cent of Australians rated ease of use as the most important feature of an app.

St. George is also exploring wearable devices including smartwatches and Google Glass to further increase convenience of using its banking services, Kulkarni has said.
