Australian Cyber Security Centre encourages businesses to report threats

ACSC launches 'Recognise, Report' campaign

The Australian Cyber Security Centre has launched a campaign aimed at helping businesses recognise and report potential security breaches.

The centre yesterday unveiled a new YouTube video for the campaign starring comedian Merrick Watts.

"The video was produced to support the ACSC's role in building awareness of the cyber threat," Major General Steve Day, the ACSC's co-ordinator, said in a statement.

"The video was launched on YouTube at no cost - there is no advertising element to this video."

The video cost $203,199 to produce, the ACSC said.

"The video is aimed at a non-technical audience and can be used by organisations to help educate their staff on the cyber threat," Day said.

"We have tried something different. We would welcome constructive feedback to help us fine tune our communication to ensure it is useful for the intended audience.

"We have taken a light hearted approach, simplified the message, and concluded with a strong call to action to report suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.

“We envisage 'Recognise. Report' will be a useful resource for organisations to start a conversation about protecting their vital information."

The ACSC began operations last year.

The organisation brings together the Australian Crime Commission, the Australian Federal Police (AFP), ASIO, the Australian Signals Directorate and the Attorney-General’s Department.

It promotes information sharing among private and public sector organisations.
