Dairy Farm Group has signed a multi-million dollar agreement with Telstra that will see the business, which operates 5800 stores across Asia, including Ikea and 7-Eleven outlets, migrate its SAP suite to a private cloud.
Detail of the deal's value was not disclosed
Telstra will manage the, physical security, maintenance and connectivity of the new setup, migration to which began in November.
The shift is expected to be completed in April this year.
"We undertook a very detailed selection process and chose Telstra as our successful cloud infrastructure partner due to their flexibility, ability to scale and willingness to adjust and refine the proposal in line with our needs," Dairy Farm Group's CIO, Gerhard Roux, said in a statement.
"The total cost of ownership and immediate partnership that developed during the negotiation phase, also influenced our final decision."
Dairy Farm's Mannings health and beauty stores were the first to migrate to the new platform.
The business is looking potentially expanding the use of private cloud to include unified-communications-as-a-service over the next two years.
Telstra announced last month that in the six months to 31 December revenue from Network Applications and Services, which includes cloud services, increased 18.1 per cent to $1 billion, with growth continuing in the Global Enterprise and Services segment and Telstra Retail. International NAS revenues increased during the half by 28.1 per cent to $41 million, the telco revealed.
