Microsoft hosts Office 365 in Australia

Software vendor also announces IRAP security assessment

Microsoft today announced that it had switched on on-shore hosting for Office 365 and Dynamics CRM Online in Australia.

The two cloud-hosted offerings from Microsoft are now available from data centres in Victoria and NSW.

Microsoft confirmed in early December that it would start offering Office 365 and Dynamics from Australian data centres this year.

The vendor in October officially launched the Australian 'geo' for its Azure cloud services.

Microsoft also this morning announced Office 365 had completed formally assessed for use with Unclassified Sensitive data through the government's Independent Registered Assessors Program (IRAP).

"Microsoft Office 365 is the first cloud productivity service to be able to provide this level of assurance in Australia," Pip Marlow, Microsoft Australia's managing director, claimed.

"This news builds on our recent ISO 27018 announcement for Microsoft Azure, Office 365, CRM Online and Intune and is incredibly relevant to federal government agencies, state government, education, healthcare and commercial enterprises," Marlow wrote.

"Our comprehensive approach to global and local certifications ensures we are delivering a cloud you can trust – verified by third parties.

"The new, local services will provide even faster performance, offer geo-redundant back-up and help customers address data residency considerations, particularly in sectors such as healthcare, education, government and financial services. "

Last year Microsoft underwent a similar IRAP audit for Azure.

Dynamics CRM Online is undergoing a similar process.
