SAP Australia/New Zealand's chief operating officer, John Ruthven, will take over as local president and managing director, the ERP vendor announced today.

The current MD, Andrew Barkla, who originally joined SAP ANZ in 2012, will leave to "take on a new leadership role outside the industry" the company said in a statement. During a transition period Barkla will act as an advisor for SAP.

Ruthven was hired by SAP in January last year, intially as the regional lead for cloud in APJ. He was appointed COO at SAP ANZ in August. His previous employers include CA and Zuora.

The new local MD will report to SAP's regional president, Adaire Fox-Martin.

"We have seen spectacular growth in Australia and New Zealand over the past year," Fox-Martin said in a statement.

"This has been fuelled by local organisations’ desire to innovate and push forward as global leaders in their industry through digital transformation, as well as by a local SAP team with a relentless focus on the customer.

"We thank Andrew Barkla for his leadership in this transformative phase for SAP and look forward to John’s proven ability to scale business outcomes for our customers."
