NSW Information Commissioner Elizabeth Tydd has unveiled a case management and reporting system for agencies that need to comply with the state government’s Information (Public Access) Act 2009.
The Act promotes the proactive release of certain government information and covers the public's right to make information requests.
The online Government Information Public Access (GIPA) tool will help government departments, state-owned corporations, councils and universities comply when processing data access requests from the public.
“Organisations will be able to access the GIPA tool at no cost from any location with Internet connectivity, while ensuring that all information stored within the system is secure and meets the NSW government’s information security management systems policy,” Tydd said.
According to Tydd, the tool will improve the commission’s ability to report on the operation of the Act to state parliament in a cost effective manner.
In March this year, the NSW Information and Privacy Commission unveiled an e-learning portal to help organisations in the state respond to privacy complaints and other privacy issues.
The free portal provides access to two e-learning modules - privacy complaint handling and GIPA Act Access training for decision makers.
