A mobility strategy that centres on using virtualization to deliver desktops, apps and data to worksites has saved construction company John Holland millions of dollars, according to David Banger.
The company's CIO yesterday told the Citrix Mobility conference that a 2013 review across the organisation led to a greater emphasis on allowing employees to get access to data "on any device at any time".
Before shifting to "virtual infrastructure" the company had provisioned servers in a very traditional manager for each job site, Banger said.
"[The] approximate cost was between $5000 to $25,000 per server," the CIO said.
Implementation of the 'any device, any time' approach centred on a suite of four Citrix products, Banger said: Citrix Receiver, XenApp, NetScaler and GoToTraining
"What we’re seeing across our enterprise is the improvement of around about 20 processes and we continue to learn as we see people take up the technology," the CIO said.
"With these hundred jobs in very remote locations, we enabled the ability for our people to truly collaborate and [have] a high level of visibility – not only for ourselves, our management, but also our partners and clients," Banger said.
"It's really important that we are able to demonstrate project progress and some insight into the work that we’ve been doing."
John Holland has boosted client satisfaction, improved employee engagement and saved up to one to two hours per employee in some cases.
