Gold Coast trialling CBA Albert payment kiosks

Residents can pay rates, water notices at three locations

The City of Gold Coast is conducting a trial using CommBank’s Android-based EFTPOS tablet Albert so that residents can pay their rates and water bills.

The trial is taking place at Elanora and Runaway Bay libraries for 12 months.

A kiosk is also being trialled at the Surfers Paradise customer service centre to help reduce queues during peak hours.

People can scan their printed notice or key in the notice number. They then enter the payment amount and follow the prompts. A printed receipt will confirm that the payment has been made.

In addition, customers can pay the amount in full or choose to pay by installments at the kiosks.

According to Gold Coast deputy mayor Donna Gates, the service will deliver residents a secure and efficient payment option.

“Many customers prefer to pay their notices over the counter so these kiosks give the Gold Coast community, especially our seniors, an alternative option when paying their rates,” she said in a statement.

“This self-service payment kiosk means people can avoid queuing and walk into either of these two libraries and pay their rates in the space of a few minutes.”

Albert was officially launched in March this year. It operates on the CBA's 'Pi' platform. The bank is promoting the development of a software ecosystem around the device.

Some of the apps available for the platform include Split Bill, which allows bill splitting between up to 10 people, Cash Counter which helps the bank's customers count the day’s takings, and Community Giver which allows patrons to make donations to a nominated charity.
