Security breaches on the minds of IT managers

Forty six per cent of Australian IT managers surveyed had experienced an attempted security breach

Security, cloud computing and mobile applications management were the three biggest concerns cited by IT managers according to the results of a Centrify Corporation survey.

The survey of 106 IT managers was conducted in June this year at the AusCERT conference in Queensland.

Fifty per cent of respondents said security was their biggest concern for the next 12 months, followed by cloud computing (55 per cent) and mobile applications and management (21 per cent).

Forty six per cent of the IT managers believed their organisation had experienced an attempted security breach in the past week while 13 per cent believed an attack may have occurred in the previous 60 seconds.

Over 70 per cent of those surveyed were as concerned or more concerned about security breaches at their company than they were a year ago.

Sixty five per cent of the IT managers said they used single sign-on as part of their IT security program while 66 per cent said they regularly updated passwords. Meanwhile 55 per cent of respondents said they used multi-factor authentication.

Commenting on the results, Centrify senior director of Asia Pacific sales Niall King said the survey findings reinforced what customers were telling the company.

“Because Australia is an early adopter of technology, our IT managers are already feeling the stress of defending against the vulnerabilities created by this convergence of mobility and ubiquitous access,” King said.
