The number of Australian IT employment opportunities posted on job boards increased by 7 per cent to 29,093 in July this year following a drop in the first half of 2015 according to tech career marketplace Gooroo.
In June, 26,850 jobs were posted across Australia. The average salary was $99,453.
The highest salaries were in software development, database and big data skills with average earnings in excess of $100,000.
After peaking in December at $114,426, the first half of 2015 had seen salary drops of between 1.8 per cent and 3.1 per cent to fall more than 10 per cent lower than the salaries being advertised in the previous year.
Gooroo CEO Greg Muller said that the downward slide in the first half of the year was due to soft demand from employers.
“We’ve seen a consistent fall in demand and salary since January this year, but with the end of [the] financial year again comes some stability for the sector," he said.
“The driving force behind the stability is not just financial. We’ve also seen mobile technology related skills record a 9 per cent jump in salaries over the month of June,” said Muller.
“That’s indicative of a push from the market to hire great talent in the mobile development space.”
Salaries in the mobile technology space increased to $110,000 during June, up from $100,000 in May.
As more businesses move to cloud operations and large data centres however, infrastructure experts are being left behind with average salaries recording a 13 per cent drop year on year.
Infrastructure salaries dropped from $100,000 to $95,000 in June this year.
According to research released by ACS and Deloitte Access Economics in July, the Victorian and Western Australian ICT employment sector will grow by 3.1 per cent and 3.9 per cent respectively over the next six years.
Management, operations, technical and professional roles will make up the bulk of the rise in workers.
Demand in the NSW ICT employment sector will grow by 2.1 per cent.
