In July, customers of ISP iiNet enjoyed the fastest average speeds in Australia when viewing Netflix content, according to the updated ranking released by the video-streaming goliath.
Despite a small drop in its average speed, iiNet retained the top spot, with its customers achieving an average speed of 3.32 megabits per second (Mbps) when accessing Netflix during the month.
iiNet was followed by TPG (3.3Mbps), Optus (3.27Mbps), Dodo/Primus (2.92Mbps) and Exetel (2.91Mbps). Telstra continued to languish in last place, delivering an average speed of 2.05Mbps.
Only fixed broadband connections are measured by Netflix.
Telstra has been relegated to the bottom of the speed ladder since Netflix started releasing Australian results in April.
The telco has attributed the result to the extensive size of its ADSL footprint and large customer base, including significant numbers that don't live close to exchanges.
Netflix launched in March this year.

For all months except for the inaugural speed ranking, the number one and two spots on the Netflix speed ladder have been shared by TPG and iiNet.
Barring an unfavourable decision by Australia's competition watchdog, the two ISPs are set to merge in early September after iiNet shareholders voted overwhelmingly for a TPG buyout offer.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is assessing the impact of the merger on broadband competition and expects to announce a final decision on 20 August.
