Commonwealth Bank restores services after major tech glitches

Bank rectifies "intermittent technical issues"

The Commonwealth Bank said it has rectified problems that affected a number of services including EFTPOS, credit card payments and NetBank.

The bank earlier today confirmed that a number of its systems were suffering "intermittent issues".

CBA customers complained on social media about being unable to use a number of services including EFTPOS, ATMs and credit card payments.

"The cause is under urgent investigation and we’re working to have full services restored as a priority," a statement issued by the bank on social media said.

"We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience."

Services the bank confirmed were affected included, Netbank scheduled payments, access to credit card and Travel Money Card information, automated phone banking, Cardless Cash, and some purchases made with credit card and debit Mastercards.

"Services are returning to normal," a spokesperson for the bank said.

"We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience. More information is available at www.commbank.com.au/update."

The bank also reported issues with some of its systems on 7 September.

Late last month the bank reported a number of its services including Netbank were suffering technical problems.

In June an outage affected Netbank and EFTPOS payments.

At a results briefing in August CEO Ian Narev trumpeted the bank's spending on technology.

A focus on productivity and technology helped drive the Commonwealth Bank's investment spend to $1.25 billion for FY15, the bank said.

That figure represents an increase of 5 per cent on the prior year.
