Former Deloitte Digital technology director Peter Bonney has been hired by Insurance Australia Group (IAG) for the newly established role of disruptive technology and architecture.

Bonney had worked at Deloitte for seven years in a variety of roles including senior consultant and manager.

He will be working in the IAG Labs division and reporting to IAG Group CIO Claire Rawlins.

IAG Labs was launched in July this year. A number of offerings have emerged from the division such as ShareCover, a protection policy for Australians who let their properties via Airbnb or Stayz.

According to Rawlins, Bonney is recognised as a “skilled and forward thinking” digital leader.

“He brings a wealth of knowledge to IAG, with significant experience executing large scale digital transformation strategies,” she said in a statement.

“Digital technology is enabling us to adapt to our customers’ changing needs faster than ever before. Peter’s role will be pivotal in introducing new digital architecture and leveraging emerging technologies to ensure we keep ahead of the external environment.”

Bonney said he is looking forward to leading a “passionate team of innovators” to identify new opportunities for leveraging digital technology to better serve IAG customers, shareholders and employees.
