Telstra invests in Chinese cloud storage provider

Makes strategic investment in Qiniu

Telstra Ventures has invested in Chinese cloud storage provider Qiniu, it announced today.

The Telstra subsidiary said it had completed a strategic investment in the company.

“China is an important market for Telstra as we grow our international business. In addition to our shareholding in leading online automobile business Autohome, Telstra has a presence in the Chinese enterprise and data centre market through our joint venture company, PBS,” Matthew Koertge, managing director of Telstra Ventures, said in a statement.

“We will now look for opportunities to work with Qiniu to enhance our offering both inside China and beyond.”

Telstra has invested in a number of businesses in the Asian region over the last year, including network-as-a-service provider Pacnet.

Asia “forms an integral part of our growth strategy,” CEO Andy Penn told a Telstra shareholder event in October.

“Combining Telstra’s established cloud and network infrastructure and our innovative technology in cloud-storage should drive a lot of new business opportunities for both companies,” Qiniu CEO Xu Shiwei.
