TPG has sourced a cable ship to undertake the repair of PPC-1, the underwater cable that stretches from Sydney and Guam and is operated by the telco’s subsidiary Pipe.
PPC-1 suffered a major fault on 5 February, taking down the entire cable system.
During the outage TPG has been routing traffic via Southern Cross and the Australian Japan Cable system.
TPG’s contracted repair vessel is being used to repair the Basslink Interconnector that stretches from Tasmania to the mainland.
However, today the telco revealed it had contracted an alternative cable ship to repair PPC-1.
The cable ship has departed Taiwan for Cairns, where equipment will be loaded for the repair. It is estimated to arrive in Cairns on28 February.
TPG estimates the ship will reach the cable fault on 2 March.
