ASX IT chief to lead NSW data analytics advisory board

Nine-person board to offer strategic advice to NSW government’s Data Analytics Board

The ASX's chief information officer, Tim Thurman, will chair an advisory board for the NSW government’s Data Analytics Centre.

The state’s innovation minister, Victor Dominello, announced today the creation of the board which will offer strategic advice to the DAC.

“The board will advise government on priorities and the key partnerships across industry, government and research sectors that should be forged to ensure outcomes are delivered,” Dominello said in a statement.

“I am delighted to confirm Tim Thurman as chair of the board. Tim’s experience and expertise at the ASX, where he is overseeing the implementation of a $50 million digital strategy, will assist the government with the digitising of service delivery and implementation of whole-of-government innovation priorities.”

The NSW government established the DAC in August last year.

Dominello said earlier this year that setting up the DAC and creating a regime where government entities are compelled to hand over data to it could rank as his single biggest achievement in public life.

The minister told a conference earlier this year that the DAC had the potential to deliver better outcomes for NSW communities in areas ranging from fighting childhood obesity to efficient use of public safety resources.
