Vic government injects $81.1m into Service Victoria project

State budget allocates funding for new digital platforms

The Victorian government has set aside $81.1 million for Service Victoria in the state budget, which was handed down today.

Service Victoria is a project to create a whole-of-government, one-stop shop for state government services.

The state government last year allocated $15 million for planning work to the initiative to streamline access to services.

“Service Victoria will create a new whole of government service capability to enhance the delivery of government transactions with citizens, enable the delivery of a more effective customer experience and create new distribution channels for simple, high volume transactions,” budget papers state.

The funding will be used to “new systems, processes and digital platforms,” for Service Victoria, the government said.

“Dealing with government websites is sometimes confusing, slow and annoying,” special minister of state Gavin Jennings said in a statement.

“Great customer service is a core function of any successful business, and government should be no different.”

“We don’t need a thousand different websites and hotlines for things like car registration, birth certificates and fishing licences,” Jennings said.

“Service Victoria is about eliminating the frustrations and delays and lowering the cost to the taxpayer.”

Victoria’s northern neighbour has a similar initiative, Service NSW.
