Mobile virtual network operators (MVNO) will now be able to sell 4G services on Telstra’s network, the telco has announced.
Telstra in March 2015 had said it would open up its LTE network to wholesale customers “no later than June 2016.”
Telstra said a number of MVNOs had begun providing 4G services over its network, including AldiMobile Powered by Medion, Woolworths, Telechoice and Better Life.
Speeds will be capped at a maximum of 100Mbps, with coverage delivered over the 1800MHz and 700MHz spectrum bands, with 2600MHz spectrum being used to offer additional capacity in some areas, Telstra said.
“We know many of our MVNO customers are keen to have the opportunity to offer 4G services on Australia’s leading mobile network, so we are pleased to have the next evolution of our wholesale offer ready ahead of schedule,” the head of Telstra Wholesale, Will Irving, said in a statement.
Telstra has previously been subject to a complaint to the ACCC in relation to wholesale 4G mobile services.
MVNOs on Vodafone's network will shortly have access to 4G.
A number of MVNOs offer 4G services on Optus' network.
