Qantas CIO takes IT gig at Airbus

Luc Hennekens set to be CIO at Airbus and Airbus Group

Qantas chief information officer Luc Hennekens will next month take on the CIO role at Airbus and Airbus Group in France.

Qantas earlier this year revealed that the CIO was set to depart the airline for a new role. Hennekens has been in the CIO role since September 2013, after initially joining the airline in January 2013 as chief technology officer.

At Airbus Group he replaces Guus Dekkers, who is set to leave the company at the end of September to pursue other opportunities, the European aerospace company said. Dekkers joined Airbus in 2008.

Hennekens will have two reporting lines. For Airbus Group matters he will report to group digital transformation officer Marc Fontaine, while for Airbus matters he will report to Airbus’s chief operations officer, Tom Williams.

In addition to IT systems, the CIO role at Airbus covers digital enablement for products and cyber security, Airbus said.

“Luc brings extensive experience from different industries in IT and transformation across the globe,” Airbus Group CEO Tom Enders said in a statement.

“During his assignment at Qantas, Luc was at the heart of digitisation and big data deployment in various innovative fields, for example passenger experience or performance of aircraft.”
