ANZ CIO to report directly to CEO as part of management reshuffle

Bank’s CEO announces changes to operating model

ANZ’s chief information officer, Scott Collary, will report directly to CEO Shayne Elliott as part of a series of changes to the bank’s operating model announced today.

The changes, affecting technology, operations and shared services, will take place in the coming months, the bank said, and follow a decision by group chief operating officer Alistair Currie to step down from his role later this year.

The move to have the bank’s CIO report directly to its CEO will reinforce technology’s strategic role alongside digital banking, ANZ said.

ANZ deputy CEO Graham Hodges will take charge of group hubs, enterprise services and group property. Craig Sims has shifted to general manager operations and services and will report to Hodges.

General manager transformation projects, Nigel Dobson, will take on wholesale digital strategy and payments transformation, the bank said.

Dobson will report to the bank’s digital banking chief, Maile Carnegie. Carnegie, Google’s former managing director for Australia and New Zealand, joined the bank earlier this year. Her position at ANZ was created as part of a push to accelerate the bank’s digital transformation.

“These changes to our operating model better support ANZ’s strategic priorities and allow us to build on the significant progress that has been made in recent years in technology, operations and shared services,” Elliott said in a statement.
