IAG’s CIO departs

Claire Rawlins leaves after just under a year and a half at the insurer

IAG’s group executive digital and technology, Claire Rawlins, has departed, the insurer announced today.

The statement issued by IAG to the ASX did not include an explanantion for her sudden departure.

Rawlins joined the insurance company in June 2015. The former NBN CIO was appointed CTO at IAG in July and in August moved to the group CIO role.

In December IAG announced that Rawlins would lead Digital Labs, one of three new divisions focussed on customer experience, technology and operations. Rawlins reported to CEO Peter Harmer.

IAG in August revealed details of a major program to simplify the insurer’s core policy and claims products, processes and platforms to drive efficiencies across its Australian and New Zealand businesses.

In its full year results the insurer recognised a non-cash, pre-tax charge of $198 million for accelerated amortisation and impairment of capitalised software.

“This follows a detailed review of the group’s assets in light of an environment of unprecedented digital disruption and the system simplification that the group’s commencing,” IAG CFO Nick Hawkins said in August during a briefing on the results.

Peter Bonney will head up Digital Labs on an interim basis, IAG said in a statement. The former Deloitte Digital technology director was been hired by IAG last year for the newly established role director of disruptive technology and architecture.

“I look forward to working with Peter to refine our digital offering and to develop new and innovative ways to connect and engage with our customers and partners,” Harmer said.
