Finally, a big tech announcement that's not about Apple.
In case you missed it, Google on Tuesday rolled out a variety of new devices, everything from smartphones -- the Pixel -- to Google Home and Google Wifi. Oh and it unveiled Google Assistant, which ties everything together with a witch's brew of artificial intelligence and voice recognition.
The prospect of Google listening in at home has Multimedia Editor Keith Shaw worried about privacy -- and firmly wearing his tin-foil hat -- as he and Executive News Editor Ken Mingis decipher what Google is up to.
Are we now living in a future where our devices "know" more about us and what we need than we want them to know? Is "OK, Google, turn on the lights" the 2016 equivalent of "Open the pod bay door, Hal"?
Probably not. But technology is clearly headed that way, and Google's new products and services represent a big push in that direction. The only hitch: that little thing called privacy.
