NBN among the early adopters of Workplace by Facebook

Company collaborates with new Facebook platform

NBN has announced it is one of the first enterprises to roll out Facebook’s business-focussed Workplace offering.

NBN said it was the first Australian to begin using the beta version of Workplace by Facebook. In July, an initial 100-strong pilot of the platform was expanded to the rest of the organisation, with NBN’s 6000+ employees and contractors invited to participate.

Workplace officially launched yesterday, with Facebook revealing that more than 1000 organisations were already using the collaboration platform, which was formerly called Facebook at Work.

“We’ve brought the best of Facebook to the workplace — whether it’s basic infrastructure such as News Feed, or the ability to create and share in Groups or via chat, or useful features such as Live, Reactions, Search and Trending posts,” the social media company said.

“This means you can chat with a colleague across the world in real time, host a virtual brainstorm in a Group, or follow along with your CEO’s presentation on Facebook Live.”

Workplace also has a number of features not found in Facebook, such as a dashboard with analytics and integrations with single sign-on.

"We had set a target of 50 per cent registered by end of year but our expectations clearly didn't anticipate the team's appetite for collaboration," Karina Keisler, executive general manager of corporate affairs at NBN, said in a statement.

Keisler said the platform now encompassed 90 per cent of NBN employees and offered a “steady stream of conversation and collaboration.”

The corporate affairs head said that the launch of NBN’s Sky Muster II satellite provided an example of how the platform was being used.

After weather conditions delayed the launched the platform was used by NBN’s comms team to help co-ordinate their response.

“When the launch happened a day later Workplace's live video function lit up the newsfeed with experiences across the company,” Keisler said.

“There were 1400 posts, 1700 comments and 8400 reactions from across the business, and across the world, that would not have happened via email. We all shared the spoils of our employee space bake off, watched the launch and shared in the celebration. It was truly incredible.

“The call centre based on the Gold Coast has also embraced the platform. Not only are they avid users within their own groups but the rest of the company is getting to know the team at the forefront of customer issues and assisting with real time answers to questions that might have taken days to answer.”
