Essential Energy is preparing for a thorough-going technology transformation, with the NSW government-owned corporation creating a new chief information officer position to lead the program.
Essential Energy operates Australia’s largest electricity distribution network. The company’s network covers 95 per cent of New South Wales as well as parts of southern Queensland, and is responsible for delivering electricity to 800,000 people. A division of the company, Essential Water, provides water and sewerage services in NSW’s far west.
Essential Energy was created in 2011, incorporating the network operations of the now-defunct Country Energy, after the state government transferred Country Energy’s retail business to Origin Energy.
“Essential Energy has commenced recruitment for a chief information officer to lead an organisational-wide technological transformation of its business,” Essential Energy’s CEO, John Cleland, told Computerworld.
The CIO role was created as part of an executive restructure at the company which identified IT as a “as a function requiring dedicated executive leadership,” Cleland said.
Harvey Nash has been tapped to lead the recruitment process.
The CIO will report directly to Cleland. Essential Energy says it is seeking a candidate that can offer experience in enterprise resource planning, workforce productivity and mobility, enterprise asset management, customer systems, data integrity, and integration of new network technologies.
“The chief information officer will be responsible for driving significant technology, business process and cultural change as Essential Energy transforms to a new business model amid an ever changing industry and economic environment,” Cleland said.
