Peribit optimizes bandwidth at the lower end

A newcomer to the Australian market bandwidth optimization provider, Peribit Networks, has added a lower-end platform to its product range and is growing its channel.

Peribit aims to improve WAN performance with its integrated PeriSphere architecture. The architecture includes compression, sequence caching, latency reduction, bandwidth management, path optimization and visibility technologies. The four-year old company, which claims more than 700 customers globally, landed in Australia in February this year. It now has 80 customers in the Asia-Pacific region.

The latest addition to Peribit's suite is the SR-15 Sequence Reducer which offers a 64Kbps licence and up to two remote connections for $3200.

Steven Wastie, Peribit International marketing director, said the SR-15 opens new SME market opportunities, but is also suited to large enterprises with remote branches. The SR-15 extends the vendor's offering of scalable sequence reducers that range up to the SR-100 which offers up to 2000 remote connections at 1Mbps to 155Mbps.

De Bortoli Wines' IT manager Bill Robertson deployed the Peribit SR solution to simultaneously reduce costs and enable growth for his network which stretches from Brisbane to Perth and is based in the Riverina.

"We faced the challenge of ensuring the effective delivery of the critical applications to our users who are mostly based in remote sites and are therefore completely dependant on WAN performance," he said.

De Bortoli has seven offices using the SR platforms. Five sites are using the SR-50s, and two are using the SR-20s.

"We are also looking into the SR-15s as they might be useful for our very small sites such as our vineyards in Moyhu, Victoria," he said.

Robertson said the investment has eliminated the need to upgrade bandwidth links for another two years.

"It is also incredibly easy to drop in. As long as you get the in and out cables in the right order, you're fine. Even if you don't, the network will still work," he said.

Robertson estimates he will see a nine-month return on the investment, "and that's being conservative".

Peribit this week announced a new local partnership with storage provider, XSI Data Solutions. XSI joins six other local channel partners including Allied, Global Net and Net Solutions
