PC Tools adds to Spyware Doctor's operating table

PC Tools has added new features, user friendliness and an improved browser monitor to its popular spyware removal software for Windows.

Spyware Doctor 3.0 will be available in the coming weeks from the company's website http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/ for $US39.95 or free for existing users.

This version features a new, user-friendly scan results screen, with threats presented in an expandable tree-view and ranked by level of risk.

It also boasts an improved browser monitor which can scan and remove malicious Browser Extensions in addition to Browser Helper Objects (BHO).

A BHO often appears as a helpful browser toolbar within Microsoft Internet Explorer. However, the company warns that malicious BHOs can change your default home page to point to another site or send histories of your web-browsing habits to third parties for use in targeted advertising.

Spyware Doctor Version 3.0 also has several new features on the settings screen, including the ability to set the default scan action to quick, full or custom mode, plus a scheduler for scans and live updates. Live updates are issued at least on a weekly basis.

PC Tools representative, Magida Ezzat, said the last version of the software was extremely popular.

"Spyware Doctor 2.1 has been in the top 20 on download.com for 24 weeks running, with average downloads of 500,000 per week," Ezzat said.

Ezzat said version 3.0.1 will be available in Feb and it will contain an advanced pop-up stopper. An enterprise-ready version should be released in mid 2005.
