ABC goes mobile with news

ABC will now offer news and current affairs over mobile phones and pocket PCs through a deal with Go Connect.

The agreement, formed last week, will see subscribers able to access the ABC's Foreign Correspondent and News content over GoConnect's m-Vision platform, for prices starting at $8.33 per month.

GoConnect's m-Vision allows Microsoft-enabled mobile phone and pocket PC users to access video content using GPRS, Wi-Fi or Active Sync worldwide.

Manager for ABC Content Licensing, Angelo Tilocca, would not comment on how significant this deal would be to ABC's revenue, but expects this segment to grow.

"The provision of content for delivery on mobile platforms is an area that ABC Content Sales has been actively developing," he said.

"Not only does it broaden the reach of ABC content beyond our own platforms of radio, television and online, it also introduces new audiences to the wealth of quality content produced by the ABC."

Tilocca said the ABC content on m-Vision would be aimed at the 25 to 54-year-old professional market.
