Paul Brandling takes reins at Compaq

Eight-year Compaq veteran Paul Brandling has been promoted to the top of Compaq South Pacific - covering both Australia and New Zealand - from his previous job as general manager of the company's enterprise solutions and services group. He replaces Ian Penman, founding managing director of the company's Australian subsidiary in 1985, who retired as of October 13.

Brandling is British and worked in the motor industry in Europe and Australia before joining the computer industry with Wang, where he held a number of sales and management positions for seven years. He has been with Compaq since then.

Brandling said he expects his focus from the managing director's chair will be on the "dynamic" Internet world. "To achieve this I will focus on three main areas: drive services and people as a competitive differentiator; leverage Compaq's innovative technology with quality execution to optimise the customer experience; and continue to enhance partnerships to offer customers the best possible solutions."

At Network Appliance he replaces Michael Bosch, who has been given a regional marketing role but will continue to work from Sydney.

Directors leak from Sausage and Solution 6The steady departure of directors from Sausage Software and Solution 6 continued this week as a couple of well known figures said their goodbyes.

Gil Hoskins announced that he will not seek re-election to the Sausage board and will resign at the annual meeting next month. Hoskins has been involved with the company as chairman for more than three years, but claimed it is now time "for other skills to be brought forward" to see the company move ahead. Sausage CEO Lloyd Roberts paid tribute to Hoskins' contribution as the company was transformed from an Internet start-up to a "successful technology company".

Tom Montgomery's departure from Solution 6 last Monday was more abrupt. He resigned as a director and CFO with immediate effect because of "a desire to return to the United States".
