Tech Pacific brings Starlight to kids

Continuing to carry the torch of philanthropy in the channel, Tech Pacific last week donned a genie outfit for the fourth year in a row to grant 60 wishes to seriously ill children associated with the Starlight Children's Foundation.

Presenting the foundation with a cheque for $230,000, Tech Pacific managing director David Cullen said this year's fundraiser exceeded everyone's expectations thanks to the generosity of the ball's 10 corporate sponsors, successful charity auctions and ticket sales.

"So far we've raised over $500,000 for the foundation. We've kept raising the bar over the years, with this year's goal set at $200,000," Cullen said.

"We were able to raise $230,000, which is faboulous, and I think everyone in this room understands how important this contribution is to these children."

The highest single contribution to the fundraiser held in July was made by Millennium sponsor Microsoft, which donated $25,000 to the cause.

Gold sponsors Harvey Norman, Toshiba, Nokia, Kodak, Symantec, Lexmark, Digi and Adobe contributed $10,000 each.

Wearing odd shoes, Starlight chairman Bob Mansfield thanked Tech Pacific and the industry for "spreading Starlight to needy kids around the country".

Mansfield, the former head of Optus, emphasised the contribution was even more significant considering that 90 cents out of every dollar spent by the foundation goes directly to the children.
