Softek emerges from Fujitsu

A management-led buyout has freed Softek from Fujitsu.

Incorporated as Softek Storage Solutions, the former subsidiary of Japan-based Fujitsu will continue to sell its SRM (storage resource management) software, dubbed Storage Manager software, to enterprises looking to manage multi-vendor storage environments.

The financial terms of the buyout were not disclosed, but three venture capital firms were involved in the deal.

Steven Murphy, president and CEO of Softek, said Fujitsu will continue to resell Storage Manger through a multi-year OEM agreement.

He said the buyout comes at the right time -- as the market for SRM software is in the adoption phase.

"We've chaffed away the hype," Murphy said. "The reality of the marketplace has formed."

Softek competes with Veritas Software, Computer Associates International, and BMC Software in the SRM fray.
