Iomega HipZip
Iomega has launched its HipZip digital audio player. The device combines music storage with support for licensed digital downloads of copyrighted music and spoken word content.
The player is available from mid November and will retail for $669. It can automatically detect and play digital formats and uses Iomega's PocketZip 40MB disks to store data.
It features a customised equaliser, drag and drop file transfer capability, fast USB connectivity, and a menu-driven, backlit display, the company claims.
The palm-sized player uses iObjects Radio operating system to download or record digital files. It is compatible with MS Windows Media Format and MP3, and is software upgradable to other audio formats, such as Audible and Dolby AAC.
The device can also connect to a computer via USB and includes a 12-hour rechargable lithium ion battery. The player's software package will include Windows Media Player 7 for Windows users and MusicMatch Jukebox plus software for Mac users.www.iomega.com.auDatamax I-ClassDesigned specifically for industrial environments, the Datamax I-Class label printer is made from die-cast aluminium with metal covers. It features a five-button backlit LCD and a modular design that makes the printer easier to upgrade or reconfigure, the company claims. With reliability in mind, the I-Class also includes a collapsible ribbon hub, which is easy to replace.
The printers use a Micro Printer Server, which allows multiple users on various operating platforms to share the device. It supports Novell NetWare, UNIX, Windows NT, LAN Manager, AppleTalk and DEC.
The printer is available through desktop printing and software distributor Codeway and costs around 40 per cent less than earlier models. Targeted at small and medium workgroups, the printer includes Canon's colour matching technology and uses oil-free toner fixing to enhance printing quality.
The printer will automatically adjust colours to optimise digital camera or scanned images. Jobs can be controlled or customised directly from the driver and users can specify output, duplex printing or paper size.
The CLBP400 connects via parallel port or optional Ethernet board. It carries a retail price tag of $4895.www.canon.com.auNemetschek D-BoardAustralian Design and Drafting (ADD) is distributing the newly launched Nemetschek D-Board drawing and freehand sketching graphics tablet and pen. Made for architects and designers, the board is the first in a new line of high-end software and hardware. Operation of the tablet is self explanatory, according to Nemetschek. The D-Board uses a TFT screen that is pressure sensitive, replicating an architect's work. The tablet comes with its own CAD software but will also work as is on any Windows software, including Photoshop and 3D Studio. It is priced at $6550, including GST.www.nemetschek.de
