Hosting, Wireless, Business Intelligence on OpenWorld Agenda

Topics high on the agenda at Oracle's upcoming OpenWorld developer conference here will be application hosting, wireless technologies and business intelligence software, according to a company executive.

John Magee, Oracle director of Internet platform marketing, said that the company will be talking up hosting capabilities at the event, which kicks off at the Moscone Center here Sunday Oct. 1 and runs through Friday Oct. 6.

Oracle Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Larry Ellison has already committed his company to producing a hosted version of its iFS (Internet File System), but Magee wouldn't be drawn on whether the company will formally introduce the software at OpenWorld.

Oracle will also turn the spotlight on the wireless version of its iAS (Internet Application Server), as well as highlighting the company's business intelligence and OLAP (online analytical processing) software, Magee said.

Keynote speakers at the event are due to include Ellison, Intel Corp. CEO and President Craig Barrett and Sun Microsystems Inc. CEO and President Scott McNealy.
