The Indian music industry is set to be hit by the Internet revolution with this week's launch of a pay-per-download music service by Venus Tapes & Records Ltd.
Under the scheme, from the date of joining, a user can download up to a 100 songs in MP3 format monthly at a cost of US$10 per month, or $80 for the whole year, the company said.
Venus' entire catalogue of largely Hindi film songs and Hindi pop songs will be available for download in MP3 format.
A user can opt for a monthly membership scheme costing $20, quarterly ($40), half yearly ($60) or yearly service ($80). There is also a one-time fee of $20 to join. Depending on what deal a member takes, the cost of downloading a song could range from 8 cents to 10 cents per song, the company said.
