Data#3 has added to the staff of the security services group it has built on top of the Beethoven Computer Services operation it acquired in March. The new group will develop the company's security products and services, including security audit and review, Internet firewall and perimeter security, and user authentication systems.
Grae Myer-Gleaves, previously with Beethoven, has been appointed lead security consultant in Data#3's Queensland head office. He has had an extensive background in the security field, including some time with the Department of Defence working on the Army's secure communications network. He has also worked with Compaq.
In addition, Steven McLaren has joined Data#3 has a business development manager specialising in networking technologies. He has worked in a variety of channel positions for Data#3's suppliers, including Nortel.
Doors keep slamming at LibertyOne
The problems at LibertyOne continue unabated. It is believed almost 20 staff have gone in recent weeks from the company and its Web integration arm ZIVO. And then early in the week CFO Jack Surdoval resigned. A statement released by the company noted that Surdoval had joined LibertyOne in November specifically to oversee the company's proposed NASDAQ listing, and his departure was a logical move once the listing plans were dropped.
Further trouble struck the company later in the week when Chinese Books CyberStore appointed a liquidator following a decision by its board of directors to wind up the company. LibertyOne acquired a 25 per cent stake in Chinese Books CyberStore in September 1999 in exchange for 14,553,015 shares in LibertyOne. It is not yet known whether LibertyOne will receive anything from the liquidation process. Chinese Books CyberStore was formed in January 1997 to sell Chinese-language books, music, videos, DVDs, and laser disks.
Accelerator appoints two mentors
Business accelerator ePark has appointed PepsiCo acquisitions specialist David Landers and Horizon investment director Nick Batchelor as e-coaches, to act as mentors to start-up companies in its accelerator program. Landers will be based in Sydney and Batchelor in Melbourne. Their appointments take the ePark business team to eight people. ePark is a joint venture between Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu and Allen & Buckeridge, which has attracted $A5 million in Federal Government BITS funding. Its focus is on dot-com companies at the early stage of their life cycle.

SPL WorldGroup has appointed Mr CD Hobbs as a US-based CEO "to lead the company into its next growth phase". Hobbs joins SPL from META Group, where he developed and led the Energy Information Strategies Practice.
We've been told that Becky Thompson has been appointed marketing vice president of LookSmart, replacing Pat Duffy who departed recently for a position with advertising agent George Patterson Bates. Thompson joined LookSmart from the f2 online arm of Fairfax, where she worked on CitySearch and Sold.com.au.
