FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (06/15/2000) - A week after its foundation, the new carrier formed by Bell Canada International Inc. (BCI) and Teléfonos de México SA de CV (Telmex) is getting a third stakeholder.
SBC Communications Inc. announced Thursday that it plans to transfer its stake in Brazilian wireless carrier ATL to the Telmex/BCI company, which would give SBC a 12 percent stake in the company, which has yet to be named. The stake transfer still must be approved by the SBC board.
BCI and Telmex announced last week the creation of a new carrier with a US$3.5 billion market capitalization that will focus on the South American telecommunications services market.
