Marathon to Offer NT Fault-Tolerance Solution

SAN MATEO (06/02/2000) - Marathon Technologies Corp. week will release the latest version of its fault-tolerance hardware/software solution for Windows NT servers.

Endurance 6200 ties four Intel-based servers into one array of servers, which is split into two halves. Each half runs the same application, and if one half of the array fails, the application continues to run on the other side, eliminating the possibility of a single point of hardware failure, according to Marathon officials.

"This makes it possible to run Windows servers continuously with no interruptions, be it hardware or software, and [to] do it with your favorite flavor of [Windows] server manufacturer," said Craig Jon Anderson, marketing director at Marathon. "When you turn it on, an application is running on an assured availability array."

The upgrade to Endurance also will allow IT managers to position the two halves of the server array further apart than before -- up to 500 meters, Anderson said. Endurance 6200 will feature enhanced graphics, improved remote administration and system management, and support for Fibre Channel, he said.

Pricing will begin at $50,000, with fully configured systems running in the $60,000 to $70,000 range, Anderson said.
