Intel releases new e-business processor

Intel has released the Pentium III Xeon 800MHz processor which the vendor claims is ideal for front-end servers performing e-business functions. The processor uses Intel's 0.18-micron process technology and has a 256KB advanced transfer cache memory with advanced system buffering. It offers a 133MHz system bus and on-cartridge voltage management that increases system reliability, Intel said. The processor is available now and is priced at $US901 in 1000-unit quantities. Meanwhile, Intel has bought a 2.8 per cent stake in Aussie e-commerce security products supplier SecureNet. The deal, finalised in early December, is worth $7.65 million to SecureNet and provides them with cash to expand into the Asia-Pacific and Chinese e-commerce markets and to further develop its technology.
