SAN MATEO (01/26/2000) - Hewlett-Packard Co. at the ComNet 2000 conference today announced that its management software and services, including HP OpenView, HP TopTools, HP Web JetAdmin, and Manageability Consulting Services, will be extended to Microsoft Corp.'s Windows 2000.
HP is eyeing the benefits of its management software and services integration with Windows 2000 to give customers bigger gains in PC performance, reliability, and ease of use as their businesses become Internet-secured and enabled, according to the company.
HP TopTools, a modular Web-based management software suite, provides tools for remote asset management, fault management, configuration management, and security management from any location inside the network, HP officials said.
The package will support the Microsoft Management Console.
HP OpenView, meanwhile, is HP's enterprise management portfolio that provides network management capabilities for multivendor applications and environments, HP officials said.
Through its integration with Windows 2000, HP Web JetAdmin will extend HP OpenView to enable network printing services, saving IT managers time and money spent on troubleshooting and configuring a device/multinetwork enterprise environment, officials said.
HP Server and Storage Consolidation Planning services, part of HP's Manageability Consulting Services, are designed to help IT managers narrow the number of server and storage devices in an existing environment in conjunction with the deployment of Windows 2000. Services are intended to increase system availability and reduce cost of ownership, HP officials said.
HP customers can plan Windows 2000 migration by using TopTools' management and reporting capabilities to produce a Windows 2000 Migration Report. The report details HP Vectra corporate PCs, HP OmniBook notebook PCs, and HP Kayak PC Workstations that meet Microsoft's recommended Windows 2000 hardware requirements, according to HP officials. HP is providing customers with the Microsoft Windows 2000 Solution Kit CD-ROM to create a smooth migration to the new OS.
The upgraded HP TopTools and HP Web JetAdmin versions will be available to customers later this year.
