Network Management Vendors Gear Up for ComNet

At ComNet 2000 in Washington next week, a host of companies will show off their latest and greatest innovations to extend and enhance network management in a variety of ways.

Among the announcements:

-- Microsoft Corp. is expected to outline management specifics of Windows 2000 at the show, and in accordance will highlight key accounts and products supporting the long-anticipated operating system due for release next month.

-- Compuware Corp. will reveal at ComNet 2000 how its EcoSystems suite of products integrates and offers service level management with Windows 2000-based applications by providing data centers with improved applications manageability, officials said.

-- , an on-demand VPN/extranet service, will be courting the application service provider (ASP) and ISP market at ComNet with claims it can secure and cut down from hours to minutes the traditional cycle time for creating and closing the virtual tunnel. officials said the company could provide the service without making any alterations to a network's existing IP-based applications or solutions.

A formal release date for services is scheduled for mid-summer 2000, but demonstrations of the service in collaboration with four companies utilizing it will take place at ComNet.

-- GTE Internetworking will offer small to medium-sized businesses and branch offices a new one-stop shopping feature with Secure BizConnect. Secure BizConnect exists as the integration of GTE's Security Advantage Managed Internet Service with its BizConnect Internet Access service.

With the one combined solution, customers will have a single ordering process, provisioning, support contact and single invoicing, officials said. Available now, Secure BizConnect includes a Cisco router and costs US$1,375 a month.

-- Concord Communications will use ComNet as a forum to discuss Service Health, a new product that delivers a total view of e-business performance and fast application response time for ASPs. Part of Concord's eHealth solution, Service Health allows ASPs to manage the performance of actual user transactions in commercial software packages, as well as custom-developed Windows- and Web-based applications, officials said.

-- Managed Objects Solutions will announce its new Formula Common Information Model (CIM) Object Manager application. CIM Object Manager ensures support for existing multi-vendor management products while providing integration with new CIM-enabled assets, officials said. The Formula CIM Object Manager extends the integration between legacy and SNMP devices to include CIM-enabled devices. The Formula CIM Object Manager is planned for delivery in April 2000.
