Software glitch hits TAB on eve of Melbourne Cup

A day before Melbourne Cup the NSW TAB was hit with a software glitch today with some venues unable to process bets for nearly three hours.

Branches across the state went offline at 1.30pm today when a server in the TAB head office developed a software error.

With Melbourne Cup fast approaching, the betting agency had to stop taking in-store bets during one of the busiest times of year.

Peter Fletcher from TAB said that the software 'glitch' affected half of the TAB system across New South Wales.

"We have lost a bit of trade from today, and we would rather not have any problems - it's a bit like having a flat tyre on a limousine the day before a wedding," Fletcher said.

"Our technicians are attempting to work out the error but the software is now fixed.

"These things are not unusual and we try to minimize any impact, but I'm glad it happened today."

In-store TAB betting facilities were fixed by 4pm Monday afternoon.
