Deutsche Telekom to Resell Infonet's Services

PARIS (03/31/2000) - Deutsche Telekom AG yesterday applied another patch to the holes in its global coverage left by the break-up of its GlobalOne alliance with France Télécom.

Deutsche Telekom AG will resell the global network services of Infonet Services Corp. and brand them as its own, the companies said in a statement yesterday.

The companies have signed a memorandum of understanding as a preliminary step to a detailed agreement on the matter, according to the statement.

The agreement will bring Infonet as much as US$1 billion in additional revenues over the expected 5-year duration of the agreement, the company said.

Deutsche Telekom took a majority stake Monday in German IT services company Debis Systemhaus, gaining access to its global data network. That acquisition went some way to filling the gap in Deutsche Telekom's global strategy left by its January sale of its share in Global One to former partner France Télécom. The deal with Infonet will give Deutsche Telekom access to Infonet's infrastructure in over 60 countries worldwide, the companies said.
