Georgia City to Offer Free Net Access Over TV

FRAMINGHAM (03/27/2000) - The city of LaGrange, Georgia, has become the first city in the U.S. to provide free Internet access to all cable television households without the need for computers or modems.

The "LaGrange Internet TV" service, which is being deployed this spring and funded by the city, will allow citizens to access the Internet by turning on their cable television and typing on a wireless keyboard provided as part of the service. Citizens will be given five free e-mail accounts and a parental-control feature to prevent children from accessing objectionable material.
