Tech Pac alleviates Kyocera's regional stress

Printer vendor Kyocera has finally propped up its New South Wales distribution channel with the appointment of Tech Pacific to distribute its range of laser printers.

David Finn, Kyocera's managing director, has maintained for some time now that "NSW is under-distributed, especially in regional areas". Tech Pacific will address this shortcoming, but will also act as a national distributor, with a bonus presence in the Pacific Islands.

"Tech Pacific is clearly the number one tier-one distributor in Australia and, put simply, will dramatically improve our distribution in NSW," said Finn.

The distributor will also serve to alleviate "channel frustration" caused by the lack of a one-stop shop. "Resellers used to go to Tech Pacific to get all the bits and pieces but could not get our laser printers. This arrangement will remove that problem," explained Finn.

CHA will remain a Kyocera distributor, continuing in what Finn describes as a niche role. Kyocera will also maintain its relationship with several regional distributors who add "their own brand of value".

The partnership was a long time in the making, with initial discussions commencing in October and only taking effect yesterday. "It's taken a long time to get here but we both needed to fully investigate each other," said Finn.

Fiona Stewart, Tech Pacific's marketing manager, said that the distributor was most attracted by Kyocera's market position. "Kyocera has achieved high growth in the laser printer market. At Tech Pacific we constantly look to partner with market leading, brand name organisations to complement our existing product portfolio."
