Chrysalis-ITS Readies Security for Web Switches

FRAMINGHAM (04/26/2000) - Chrysalis-ITS later this year plans to ship a network security processor for use in Web switches, VPN equipment and Wireless Application Protocol servers and gateways.

Now in beta, the Luna 340 programmable chipset supports the variety of algorithms and suites in the virtual private network IP Security standard as well as Secure Sockets Layer encryption. The chipset will also support contenders for the new Advanced Encryption Standard that will eventually replace the Digital Encryption Standard.

Th eLuna 340 will ship by the third quarter of this year, though beta versions are available for evaluation now.

The chipset supports bidirectional OC-3 VPN applications, company President and CEO Steve Baker says. "OC-3 performance is needed by equipment at the networking edge," Baker notes. He explains that the chipset is intended for purchase by original equipment vendors supplying carrier and enterprise gear rather than the general public. So far, however, no OEM has made a purchase commitment for the Luna 340.

The Luna 340 will cost in the $200 range.
