Computer Associates Focused on Security

NEW ORLEANS (04/12/2000) - Although the issue of security did not garner its own press conference or special announcement at the CA World 2000 conference here this week, Computer Associates International Inc. says the subject is still very much on the minds of the company as it embarks on its much-publicized e-business launch.

Improving intelligence in CA's Neugent predictive agent technology will play a key role, enabling more efficient identification of patterns and methods of attacks over an entire infrastructure and business environment in real time, said Simon Perry, security business manager at Computer Associates.

"That's an area over this calendar year that we'll finalize (the technology), and get it out the door," Perry said.

In his CA World keynote speech, CA President Sanjay Kumar noted that securing transactions over the Web with the use of digital certificates is a major security focus for the company.

To that end, CA has developed eTrust OCSPro (Online Certificate Status Protocol), and Directory, a PKI (public key infrastructure)-based management and configuration system that complies with transaction and communication authentication standards set by Identrus, a global trust organization formed in 1999 by nine of the world's largest financial institutions.

Perry said integrating CA's 14-product E-trust security line with Unicenter TND's Jasmine ii development platform will bring a much richer set of security options to a management system.

CA also plans to introduce means to secure WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) devices over the next 6 to 12 months, Perry said.

Computer Associates International Inc., in Islandia, New York, is at www.ca.com.
