FRAMINGHAM (04/04/2000) - Cisco Systems Inc. is trying to make running Web-based applications on a campus or LAN (local area network) easier for IT staff.
Today, the company announced its CiscoWorks 2000 LAN Management Solution, an integrated suite that will give IS staff one Web-based view for LAN switching and routing. The company claims that the software will give users a comprehensive view of a LAN topology and detect incipient problems when running key network applications.
Among the components of the Management Solution is the new Campus Manager, a set of applications that discovers and maps Layer 2 devices. Campus Manager can detect and replicate the physical and logical connections of up to 1,000 devices, Cisco claims. The Campus Manager can handle ATM and VLAN/LANE configuration and end-station tracking, as well as Layer 2 and Layer 3 data-path analysis, Cisco officials say.
The company is also introducing a Content Flow Monitor, which will look at the performance of Cisco devices handling Web server load balancing. For instance, the monitor can view a Cisco 7200 router and make sure key Internet business applications are being prioritized during traffic floods.
The LAN Management Solution will work with other CiscoWorks 2000 products. It will be available early this month and will cost US$14,995.
